Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides the toolset to bring enhanced visualization and planning before, during, and after construction. In essence, BIM provides a complete three-dimensional model of a building that can be used for spatial coordination of all buildings systems. Burleson Construction uses this coordination process to construct a building for the first time in a virtual environment, instead of in the field, which can effectively reduce or eliminate costly changes or delays in the field and result in more accuracy and quality during a project.
This intelligent model can also be used for increased prefabrication of building components offsite in a controlled environment, which are then brought onsite and installed in larger units. This results in faster and more precise installation times as well as reducing waste materials as part of our Lean Construction efforts.
Building Information Modeling is not just about using advancing technology, but is more about effective collaboration between team members to create a superior product through a more streamlined approach. When leveraged early in the design process, BIM provides a platform for open collaboration between Owners, Architects, and trade contractors to create a more unified and strategic plan for a building’s construction as well as planning for future building operation and maintenance. Once this model is complete, it is further used in the field to better illustrate the project requirements to field crews with enhanced visualization and understanding of the project requirements and sequencing.
